Shifra Schwartz

SCHWARTZ, Shifra - 01 September, 1930 - 10 June, 2026 - It is with great sadness that we share that our dearest Shifra passed away very peacefully in her own bed at Baycrest Terraces retirement home at the age of 95. Devoted wife to her beloved late husband Mayer (z'l) for 69 years, mother to her cherished daughter Sara Sigal and John, and son Marvin and Carol, and grandmother to the apples of her eye Mike, Matt and Julia. She was born in Jerusalem and fought to establish the State of Israel in 1948 and secure it in 1956. She began her professional career as a skilled hematological laboratorian. After welcoming her two children, she attended teacher's college, graduating as class valedictorian. She was an outstanding teacher who was highly respected by her peers and adored by her students. She identified students' gifts and abilities, motivating them to reach their full potential. She was actively involved in Israeli folk dancing in Toronto, teaching dances to hundreds of students and performing at the annual "Rikudiyah" festival. Her greatest joy was teaching her grandchildren about the Jewish holidays, preparing them for their b'nei mitzvot and celebrating the Jewish holidays with her family.
