Life & Legacy
STOKES, SYLVIA - (Nee Collins) It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother Sylvia Stokes in Toronto on April 23rd, 2026. Sylvia was the daughter of the late Louis Collins and his wife, Esther. She was the beloved and devoted wife of David Stokes. Sylvia will be lovingly remembered by her sons Jonathan Stokes (and his wife Mory) and Jeremy Collins (and his partner Eric) and by her grandchildren Naomi Macleod (and partner Adam), Yehudis Stokes, Nathan Macleod Stokes and Binyamin Stokes. Sylvia was a devoted member of Beth Tikvah Synagogue and sang in its Choir for over 30 years. She gave her time and energy to many charitable causes to make the world a better and more loving place including the Summer Centre for Seniors, a summer respite camp for seniors on Ward's Island in the Toronto Islands at which she volunteered for over 35 years well into her 80's. Sylvia had a quiet dignity and warmth as well as a radiant smile that could light up a room. She loved the arts and culture and regularly attended events and programs at the AGO and the downtown JCC well past her 100th birthday in August 2025. She will be dearly missed by all those who had the pleasure of knowing her and enjoying her company. She will live forever in the hearts of her loving family and devoted friends. Memorial donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 1-888-939-3333, www.cancer.ca or the UJA Federation of Greater Toronto, 416-635-2883 www.jewishtoronto.com
