Herbert (Av) Sohn

HERBERT SOHN (April 5, 1929 to March 22, 2026) With great sadness we announce the passing of Herbert ("Av") Sohn. Av was born in Charleston, South Carolina, grew up in Jacksonville, Florida, spent important years in Israel, but lived most of his life in Toronto. Having obtained advanced degrees in Social Work, Av devoted his professional career to improving society in the areas of civil rights, the prevention of child abuse, and protecting children and the elderly. Av and his loving wife Edith ("Dit") recently celebrated their 74th wedding anniversary. "Abba" to his family, he was a loving and supportive father to Arella (Buck), Amiram (Rose-Anne), Shani (Paul), Joshua (Heather), and Jeremy (Khrista), grandfather to Jessica (Scott), Myren, Jacob, Cole (Rita), Pryor, and Mollie, and great- grandfather to Saige and Cameron. Av was predeceased by his parents, Benjamin and Gertrude, and his brother, Gerald. Av will also be missed by his loving sister-in-law Shirley and many nieces and nephews. We also want to express our sincere thanks and love to Av's caregivers, Ola, Josephine, and our dear friend Rose.
