Life & Legacy

MANDELL, Edythe - Sadly we announce the passing of Edythe Hanna Mandell on Saturday, May 9, 2026 in Toronto at the age of 102. Edythe is survived by her two children and their spouses: Faith and Howard Weinberg and Brian Mandell and Debra David. Edythe was a proud grandmother to Jordan and Michelle Weinberg and Benjamin Weinberg and Alanna Steiner. She cherished her two great grandsons: Jacob Weinberg and Joshua Weinberg. She was predeceased by her "little brother" Sidney Frank Bregman. Special mention is made of her dear supportive and loving sister-in-law Halina Bregman. After losing her husband, David Mandell, when he was just fifty-five, Edythe returned to the work force and at the same time devoted herself to caring for her mother, Doris Bregman, her uncle Benjamin Kleiman and her children and grandchildren. She took great pride and joy in her family and embraced a wide group of friends from the neighborhood, which included Claire and Sam Weinberg, and Phyllis and Ed Morrison. A few years later Pearl and Sol David became part of the extended mishpacha. Adath Israel L'Chaim Club was a place she regularly met friends for programs and luncheons. Of special mention was her relationship with sweet Pauline Rosenfeld and the Charyk/Rosenfeld family. She enjoyed good times with her many cousins over the years. She leaves behind a story of love, and an example of determination, independence and resilience. The family would like to thank all the staff at West Park LTC for their compassionate care over the last 4 years. Challenged by the Covid epidemic and caring for fragile elderly residents posed many challenges but the West Park staff managed it all with their primary concern being the welfare of the residents. A a special thank you to Dr. Sina Sajed for his mindful and sensitive care once she was admitted to West Park LTC. Donations may be made in Edythe's memory to the charities of your choice. Following the interment friends and family are invited to gather at the home of: Faith and Howard Weinberg, (address not shown) Site 103, Toronto, (address not shown). Visits following until 4:00 p.m. Visits will conclude Monday at 4:00 p.m.
