Sheldon Fainer

FAINER, Sheldon Israel - (Born October 10, 1930 - Bilgoraj, Poland) passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on July 6th, 2026, in Toronto, Canada, where he built a beautiful life after fleeing Europe in the late 1940's. Sheldon is predeceased by his father Chaim, mother Mala Rachael, and his younger siblings Esther and Barish, who lost their lives during the war. He is survived by his adoring wife of 71 years, Beverley Fainer; children and children-in-law, Rhonda Fainer Bernick and Randy Gold, David Fainer and Tammy Deschamp, Paula Fainer and Anthony Jones. He was the beloved and cherished Poppy of Jenna Bernick, Lauren Bernick, Noah Fainer, Daniel Bensimon, and Jessica Bensimon. Sheldon was an accomplished businessman. He built and ran Designer Fabrics for 64 years alongside his wife, Beverley. He left an unforgettable mark on Toronto's fashion industry. He was fondly known as the Mayor of Parkdale, and prided himself on his relationships throughout the city, from the Toronto arts and film scene to the city government. Sheldon was well-traveled, well-read, and incredibly well-fed by his doting wife. He was a devoted father, loving grandfather, and a proud member of the Jewish community. His heart of gold, unwavering humour, perseverance, and sharp wit will be missed by all. May his memory be a blessing to all who knew him.
