Life & Legacy

DR. BRIAN NORMAN FELDMAN NOVEMBER 5, 1948 - JULY 26, 2026. It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Brian Norman Feldman following a brief illness. Brian was predeceased by his beloved son Charles (Charlie/Chuck). He leaves his adored and adoring wife Kathy, and beloved son Robert and future daughter-in-law Genna Kalish. He will also be greatly missed by his sisters, Elaine and Merle and brother-in-law Bernie Lightman, and by his sister-in-law and brother- in-law Janice and Ellis Cohen and by his nieces and nephews, Matthew and Camille, Ilana, Reena, Yaakov and Julia and by his many friends. Brian was devoted to his parents, Aaron and Molly Feldman and Kathy's parents, Gilbert and Reta Newman. Brian graduated as a dentist when he was 22 years old and was in private practice for 38 years. He went back to U of T part time to get his B.A. with Distinction, focusing on art history. He began teaching Pathology and Histology part time at the U of T Faculty of Dentistry shortly after he began in practice, and has continued for over 50 years, adding Ethics and Jurisprudence in the last few years. Brian also loved to write and edit. He was the editor of the Ontario Dental Association monthly magazine, Ontario Dentist, for 11 years. He developed and ran two innovative continuing education businesses, The Dentaletter and Current Practice, that provided summaries of dental journal articles, and that allowed subscribing dentists to earn CLE points. While in practice, he also developed an expertise in forensic dentistry and consulted part time at the Coroners Office of Ontario. Brian was thrilled to have the opportunity to pivot after he sold his dental practice to work at Colgate Canada, where he served as Director of Professional Relations and Academic Affairs. He made many lasting relationships with his Colgate colleagues and thrived in the business environment. More recently, Brian worked at the College of Dentists as a practice advisor and has continued providing his expertise to dentists privately through BNF Charts. His work was always targeted towards improving dental practice. Brian was a wonderful friend and colleague to many people. He was the person people turned to when something had to be done properly and efficiently, or when they needed to consult someone they respected. He was the go-to person for so many, and he loved to be able to help. Foremost, Brian was devoted to our family and we loved each other so much. He loved our summers in Muskoka - driving the boat, golfing, waterskiing, watching the Blue Jays - and Christmas holidays at his parents' Florida condo. Our family life was his priority. He filled it with his good humour, his positivity and good character, and his many hobbies and interests. He was our rock. We will always try to live up to his example and cherish our memories of our time together.
