Life & Legacy
In Loving Memory - Marilyn (Mara) Judith Herscovitch - March 27, 1950 - July 16, 2026 - It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Marilyn (Mara) Judith Herscovitch on July 16, 2026, at the age of 76. Born in Montreal, Quebec, on March 27, 1950, Mara was the beloved daughter of Muriel Alma Bald and Leon Kolber. She is lovingly remembered by her devoted husband, Fred Herscovitch, and her sister, Donna Cohen. Mara lived a life guided by compassion, curiosity, creativity, and a deep commitment to helping others. Together with Fred, she devoted countless hours to volunteer work throughout their lives. She believed deeply in giving back to her community and in strengthening the lives of others through acts of kindness, generosity, and service. An artist in her own right, Mara had a lifelong appreciation for the arts and for creative expression. Above all, she loved people. She delighted in meaningful conversation and had an insatiable curiosity about the world. Whether discussing international affairs, art, history, travel, or everyday life, she believed that sharing ideas and listening to different perspectives enriched us all. She had a gift for making connections and treasured the friendships she built throughout her life. Mara and Fred shared a love of travel and embraced opportunities to discover new places and cultures together. Wherever they went, Mara found joy in learning, meeting people, and experiencing the richness and diversity of the world around her. In her later years, Mara lived with Parkinson's disease, an illness that gradually changed the course of her life. Yet those who knew and loved her will remember not her illness, but her compassion, intellectual curiosity, creativity, generosity, and the genuine joy she found in connecting with others. In keeping with Mara's wishes, there will be no funeral service or celebration of life. Those wishing to honour Mara's memory are invited to continue her legacy of compassion by making a donation to one of the charitable organizations she supported throughout her life: Doctors Without Borders, 416-964-0619, https://www.doctorswithoutborders.ca or Youth Unlimited, 416-383-1477, http://yugta.ca or CUSO International, 1-888-434-2876, https://cusointernational.org or Amnesty International, 416-363-9933, http://www.aito.ca Mara's memory will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all whose lives were enriched by her warmth, wisdom, her generous spirit, and her unwavering belief in the importance of caring for others.
